“If we want to ask others to commit, we have to be the first ones to do so,” says the president of RCD Mallorca after making his contribution to La Nostra Mar through his personal, private foundation.
RCD Mallorca president Andy Kohlberg announced on 2 September a commitment of €850,000 to drive La Nostra Mar, a new initiative by the Fundació Reial Mallorca to contribute to the protection and conservation of the Mediterranean.
Kohlberg will be La Nostra Mar’s first donor, contributing €425,000 through his personal, private foundation. He has also pledged to match other donors’ contributions up to a further €425,000, with the aim of multiplying the resources devoted to protecting the Mediterranean and encouraging more people and organisations to join the project.
“If we want to ask others to commit, we have to be the first ones to do so,” said the president of RCD Mallorca during the launch.
Kohlberg explained that La Nostra Mar is born with a clear long-term vocation and with the goal of bringing together people, organisations and communities around a common purpose: protecting the Mediterranean and helping to preserve its richness for future generations.
“We don’t want this to be just another project. We want it to be a long-term commitment. We want to bring people together, join forces and turn our ability to mobilise into actions that help protect our sea.”
The aim, therefore, is for this commitment to be the starting point of a collective movement that grows over time and makes it possible to develop increasingly ambitious conservation projects.
La Nostra Mar will begin its journey in the Balearic Sea, with the aspiration that the knowledge and experience generated can serve as inspiration and extend to other parts of the Mediterranean.
